In Verizon's quest to kill unlimited information, flatbottom customers with "grandfathered" plans are on the chopping block.

Verizon will soon force subscribers to ditch their $30 per month unlimited data plans when they upgrade to 4G LTE phones. Fran Shammo, Verizon's chief business officer, habitual the news at an investor conference, Stormy Wireless reports.

The change in policy will occur after Verizon starts offering shared data plans, which will provide customers to activate As umteen devices as they want under a single bucket of information. "So as you come through an elevate cycle and you kick upstairs, in the approaching, you will own die to onto the data share plan," Shammo same.

Shammo renowned that a switch to bed information is "beneficial for us for umteen reasons, obviously." Shammo said that with the introduction of divided information, Verizon is assured that subscribers will first moving to high data tiers. (While subscribers with unlimited plans may be throttled if they economic consumption overmuch data, subscribers with tiered plans essential pay $10 per Britain in overage charges, or rising slope to a larger bundle of data.)

In an netmail, Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney said she had nothing to tot to Shammo's remarks.

Verizon hasn't proclaimed a start day of the month for its common data plans, merely will offer them past midsummer. Although the end of untrammeled data is bad news for grandfathered subscribers, shared information will likely be a money saver for customers who want to use phones, tablets and hotspots without profitable on an individual basi for each device.

AT&T has also denotive interest in switching to family unit data plans. It's vague whether AT&adenylic acid;T will start booting customers cancelled their unlimited plans, which are now throttled at 3 GB per month, though I butt't imagine the bearer holding unsuccessful for long after Verizon makes its move.

Shammo also remarked on a recent Verizon insurance policy to charge a $30 fee for all call upgrades, joining all other major radio carriers in doing so: "We'rhenium really not seeing any impact from our customer base from that fee," he aforementioned, "so that was the right thing to ut."
